Creativity + Giving back
Community
One of the foundational principles of WE ARE’s mission is the desire to give back to the destinations visited; redefining how we answer the call to travel. We are partnering with Kagumu--who has created an incredible experience with the local ingigenous people. Two years ago, Kagumu connected with Lucelly Torres, founder of Wirakoku and member of the Arhuaca community, and they agreed to set about creating an experience in Santa Marta that enthralled travelers, explored an ancient way of living and, most importantly, benefitted the local indigenous communities. The aim was to give them a direct say in what type of tourism they would like to be involved in, if indeed they wanted to be part of it. After countless meetings, proposals and visits they created Santa Marta: explore the heart of the world, it is designed around the notion of sharing ideas and beliefs from a modern civilization to one that dates back to the century. Lucelly personally takes guests back in time and shows how her project aims to empower 60 Arhuaca women to build their own bag weaving businesses, help support families producing cacao and give children an appreciation for a way of life that is slowly disappearing.
Earth
We will also clean up every beach we set foot in - a small and simple effort, that shines a light on the issues of waste, particularly when it pours directly into our oceans.
For every attendee, WE ARE plants a tree through the international movement, Treedom in order to help rebuild forests, capture CO2 emissions, improve air quality and create a tangible symbol for the WE ARE Mission.
